Spirituality at CTS
At Christ the Sower, spirituality is about the development of a sense of self, of soul, personality and character. Our school vision, underpinned by CARE, supports the development of spirituality both as a whole school community and also for each and every individual.
'A loving community that CARES' learns and grows together.'
Love - The greatest gift we receive through Jesus Christ is to know that we are loved and in return can show love to others. The caring nature of the school promotes this in our daily lives.
Underpinning all that we do, is our explicit intention that all members of our community show CARE. The compassion we show towards each other develops a sense of soul. We teach this through nurturing children and adults to make good choices, and we ask that we all aspire highly for ourselves, and each other.
Learn - Every day we learn something new about ourselves that we treasure. Every experience, good or bad, leaves a mark and makes us unique in the eyes of God. The wealth of opportunities for all members of the community to learn promotes the importance of self-growth. .
Grow – We try to live our lives to the full every day, always engaging, persevering and trying our best, using the understanding of love, growth mindset and our learnt experiences to guide us. CTS provides a safe, secure place for us to live, make mistakes, experiment, reflect, and find ways to make a difference and to flourish in the eyes of God.
How do we describe spirituality at CTS.
Christians believe that everyone is a valued creation, individually and uniquely made by God, in his own image. The bible refers to God as a potter and describes everyone being the work of God’s hand.
Sometimes pots can crack or break. Sometimes things happen that make us feel cracked or changed.
Christians believe that whatever happens to them in life, God is with them.
God can mend gaps and put everyone back together.
'We are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand'. Isaiah 64:8
Read the story of the Kintsugi story - Kintsugi is a Japanese word meaning ‘golden joinery’. Artists use golden glue to repair cracks, bringing unexpected beauty and, in some cases, allowing the light to shine through.
Christians believe that this unexpected beauty from repairing the cracks of life is their own unique spiritual journey which builds their relationships with others, the environment and with God.
We read the story of the 'Kintsugi Kid' in collective worship.
WOWs, OWs and NOWs
WOW Moments
- These are the awe and wonder moments. The times when you want to breathe in and capture the feeling, holding onto it as long as you can.
OW Moments
- These are the blows that life can bring. They can knock the breath out of you.
NOW Moments
- These are ordinary everyday times: being able to be present in the moment, being open and receptive to life, because God is not just for emergencies!
We help each other to recognise these moments in life and to reflect on events that make us who we are.
Everyone will respond differently to WOW, OW and NOW moments, therefore making each crack unique to us as individuals.
This is how we develop our very own sense of self, soul, personality and character.
Our Own Unique Spiritual Journey.
